Smart Quality Assurance for Connector Assembly with Artificial Intelligence

Predictive Quality for Automotive

Scope

With its Smart Wearable ClickID VOSS Automotive GmbH is developing a revolutionary solution for the flawless installation of connectors and wiring harnesses at manual assembly workstations. The sensorized glove captures all relevant process data and processes it in real time to immediately detect faulty connections.

aiXbrain shall implement the AI-based processing of sensor data on the wearable’s embedded microprocessor – the “brain” of the system – to enable highly precise real-time quality analysis.

The joint goal is to literally put the best possible support into the hands of assembly workers to ensure flawless installations.

Implementation

First, we ensured efficient integration and management of training data to establish a solid foundation for developing AI models.

On top of this, we implemented a comprehensive on-premise MLOps pipeline that enables automated training of various AI models and visualizes their performance.
The models apply supervised deep learning to detect complex patterns across all sensor channels, delivering highly accurate and application-specific results.

The trained AI models are seamlessly deployed to the glove’s microprocessor, providing real-time quality feedback through haptic and visual signals.

Result

Artificial intelligence powers the ClickID Smart Wearable to detect quality defects in the assembly process in real time, preventing costly rework and improving the user experience for assembly workers.

aiXbrain contributed a customized version of its Dataray® AI Framework and fine-tuned AI models. The framework enables flexible exchange of data and models, paving the way for customer-specific AI that continuously improves over time.
